When could you not receive shiatsu?

A stretch

Shiatsu is unsuitable if you:

  • are within the first 3 months of pregnancy;
  • have an infectious disease;
  • have acute illness with fever;
  • have internal bleeding or blood clots;
  • have had a major operation during the last 3 months;
  • are currently receiving chemotherapy — though between sessions it can be very helpful;
  • have a serious psychological disorder, such as psychosis or schizophrenia.

For some other conditions, treatment would need to be modified.

If you have any condition that has been diagnosed by a medical doctor, then your practitioner should know, as it may have a bearing on the type of treatment suitable for you.
