Every few weeks I (Susan Crawshaw) organise a one-day workshop for the Sutton Shiatsu Practice and Support Group. These workshops are open to anyone with some shiatsu experience. They usually attract a good mix of people with different shiatsu backgrounds and levels of experience - from people having done evening classes, right through to MRSS.
Numbers are usually limited to 16, as this allows the teacher to give everyone plenty of attention. Workshops are held at the Sutton Girl Guide HQ: for venue details and location map, click here
The 2002 timetable is shown below.

| Sunday, 13 January 2002 Dowsing for Health & Earth Energies with Elaine Harrison Time: 10.30 - 5.00 pm Cost: £25.00 Venue: Sutton Girl Guide HQ This workshop is open to anyone - no shiatsu experience necessary! Several people have expressed interest in having a dowsing day. Elaine will look at the basic rules of dowsing and its uses and how it can be applied in every day life. This will be a very experiential, practical and fun day in which students will learn the basic skills of dowsing and how to apply these using pendulums or dowsing rods to benefit their knowledge of health issues and earth energies. Elaine will also look at geopathic stress, how to detect it and how it can be cured and the effect it can have on us. Students will be able to decide the correct way to ask questions whilst dowsing for health issues and understand the different ways or uses of dowsing in everyday life. Elaine is a very experienced Feng Shui practitioner and I met her when she ran a Feng Shui workshop. She is also a dowser and runs regular workshops on this subject. I was really impressed by her enthusiasm & ability to put her subject across and create a practical fun day. Equipment: Participants should bring something that can be used as a pendulum. This need not be a ‘proper’ pendulum, but can be anything with a weight, e.g. a ring, a locket or a crystal to suspend from a piece of strong cotton or a very fine chain. In fact a nut on a piece of cotton will do. Proper pendulums are nice but not a must - improvisation can be fun! |
Sunday, 17 February 2002 Practising Kindness with Lyle Jobling MRSS(T) Time: 10.30 - 5.30 pm Cost: £30.00 Venue: Sutton Girl Guide HQ Through movement and stillness we will explore ease in the body. The way we move, both off and on the shiatsu mat, affects how we practise and how we live our daily lives. Through awareness of the breathe we discover letting go, softness, relaxation, rest and develop strength and alertness out of which arises a natural ability to respond. The focus of this workshop will be on listening to ourselves, listening to our partners and will give participants the opportunity to expand what they already know & enjoy the fruits of all their hard work & study of shiatsu. Lyle has been practising and teaching for twenty years, initially as a counsellor and then using her hands. Trained at the British School of Shiatsu-Do, Lyle met her teacher and mentor Sonia Moriceau in 1990 and the practise of mindfulness meditation has become part of her daily life. |
Sunday, 24 March 2002 General Technique Workshop with Chris Osborne MRSS(T) Time: 10.30 - 5.30 pm Cost: £30.00 Venue: Sutton Girl Guide HQ Chris ran a very enjoyable workshop last year, in which he put the case for Zen. A number of us were struck by some of the interesting practical techniques he briefly demonstrated. So this time he is going to run a very open and fluid workshop which will specifically concentrate on practical techniques. The format will be based around mini treatments and very open to what individual participants request - so come with your ideas! Chris is a Co-Director of the Kikai School of Shiatsu, and trained with Michael Rose and Bill Palmer. I am sure he will provide another enjoyable day to inspire people. |
Sunday, 28 April 2002 Exploring the Quality of Touch with Michael Rose MRSS(T) Time: 10.30 - 5.30 pm Cost: £35.00 Venue: Sutton Girl Guide HQ Michael’s workshop will concentrate on the different qualities of touch and sensing different elemental energies. He will teach us different techniques and applications for these qualities in a practical context, and will work in both more Yin and more Yang styles. His workshops are very inspiring and practical, and allow you to get away from the ‘head-stuff’ and concentrate on developing touch. The development of the essential qualities of shiatsu healing forms Michael’s major interest along with its enjoyment and its spirituality, through a strongly earthed approach. The aim of his teaching is to help the student /practitioner, whatever their level, to increase the sensitivity, power, quality and touch of their shiatsu experience. Michael Rose initially studied with Yuichi Kawada in London and Paris, and with Zen master Reuho Yamada in San Francisco. He was then most fortunate to study with Master Shizuto Masunaga for one year in Tokyo receiving his graduate diploma in 1979. Michael has been practising and teaching shiatsu for twenty-five years. He teaches extensively in the UK for many of the major shiatsu schools as well as internationally. His work has been strongly influenced by the Sufi and Zen traditions and by his interest in music and the martial arts. |
Sunday, 9 June 2002 Working with Zen with Julie McBride MRSS(T) Time: 10.30 - 5.30 pm Cost: £30.00 Venue: Sutton Girl Guide HQ Julie will lead a Zen oriented day with an opportunity to focus on the following themes to aid the effectiveness of our treatments: It will be a very practical and experiential day, and undoubtedly very enjoyable.
